This morning started off in a daze. My alarm went off at 5:30. I went to sleep at midnight. You do the math.
I finally resurrected and hauled myself to work by 6:45 which was quite the accomplishment. The office is so different early in the morning. It’s more quiet and relaxed…and everyone is feeling around gingerly as if they too are stunned by the morning and its sudden rush of work responsibilities.
Mornings ARE stunning if you think about it, and not in the traditional way we view stunning (i.e., beautiful) although they are that, too. But stunning in the sense that you are shocked. Shocked and dismayed to find that it’s morning yet again and you must be productive or rot. This is how a morning speaks to me. I am sure there are other people to whom the morning sings to, but to me it shouts. I’ve never had a hangover but I would presume that some mornings are like recovering from one.
In another side of life, a friend of mine let me know that his wife had started going into labor at 2 am. How’s that for jarring? It’s also exciting and wonderful. A new life will be starting soon (if it has not already). A new life with new promises. Not just a new life for the baby mind you, but new lives for all those involved. I’ve never had a child but I can only assume that it changes things for everyone involved in its life permanently. This is why a baby is such a miracle; they are a change in the atmosphere, a change forever. The future is eternally impacted by them. There are footsteps in the sand ahead that have not been walked but will be walked. Oh, they will be walked. Battles are fought and won, hearts are broken and then made whole…life happens all because someone is born and starts off a mere few pounds and inches.
It’s hard to realize this occasionally. All people, both the great and small, all entered the world the same way and will all leave the same way. We all make a path in life but the initiation and the final curtain call render us essentially the same.
Now how is that for morning philosophy?
All in all, today is Friday and it’s grand and glorious day for it. All Fridays speak of fun and delight and longer than normal lunch breaks and trips to get breakfast tacos from Torchy’s Tacos.
Here's to a grand weekend for us all!
